AliExpress Dark Mode: How to Shop AliExpress on a Dark Background
AliExpress is bright white from the search bar to the checkout. If you browse deals in the evening, here is how to switch it to a dark theme in Chrome and keep product photos looking right.
Quick answer
AliExpress has no built-in dark mode on its website. To get AliExpress dark mode in Chrome, install the free Dark Mode extension, open aliexpress.com and click the extension icon or press Alt+Shift+D. Switch the engine to Filter+ or Dynamic if product photos look off, and add a schedule for automatic night mode.

Does AliExpress have a dark mode?
Not on the website. As of 2026 we could not find a dark theme or night mode switch anywhere on aliexpress.com, and switching your computer to dark mode leaves the store white. That is why people search for an AliExpress dark mode fix: the store is a long scroll of white cards, white filters and white product pages, which gets tiring after dark.
The AliExpress mobile app is a separate story. We could not confirm a dedicated dark theme setting in the current app, so do not count on one. If your phone is set to dark mode and the app still looks white, that is expected behavior rather than a bug on your side.
On a desktop computer the reliable way to make AliExpress dark is a browser extension that restyles the page for you. The steps below use the Dark Mode extension for Chrome, which is free and also works in Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and Yandex Browser.
What changes when you turn on AliExpress night mode?
With the extension on, the page background turns dark, body text turns light, and the search bar, category menu, filters, product cards, reviews and cart all follow. Your account, orders and messages pages get the same black background treatment, because the extension works on whatever page is open in the tab.
Product photos are the tricky part of any AliExpress dark theme. A careless color inversion would turn a white T-shirt black and a red dress teal, which is useless when you are trying to judge an item. The Dark Mode extension has several theme engines, and two of them, Dynamic and Filter+, are designed to keep images looking natural while the rest of the page goes dark.
How to enable dark mode on AliExpress in Chrome
Setting up AliExpress dark mode takes about a minute, and you only do it once: after that, the store opens dark every time.
- 1
Install the Dark Mode extension
Open the Dark Mode page in the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome. Pin the extension icon to your toolbar so it is one click away.
- 2
Open AliExpress
Go to aliexpress.com, or reload the tab if it was already open, so the extension can restyle the page.
- 3
Turn dark mode on
Click the extension icon and flip the big On/Off switch, or press Alt+Shift+D (⌥⇧D on a Mac). AliExpress switches to a dark background straight away.
- 4
Tune brightness, contrast and sepia
Use the Brightness and Contrast sliders until prices and small print are easy to read. A little Sepia gives a warmer tone that many people prefer for late-night browsing.
- 5
Keep product photos natural
If item photos look wrong, open the theme engine options and pick Dynamic (the default) or Filter+, which preserves color saturation. Compare a colorful listing in both and keep the one that looks closest to the original.
- 6
Optional: site list and schedule
Use the site list to darken only the shops you choose, or set active hours so AliExpress night mode starts in the evening on its own.

Other ways to make AliExpress dark (and their limits)
- Chrome's own dark theme. Choosing dark mode in Chrome's appearance settings, or turning on dark mode in Windows or macOS, darkens the tabs, toolbar and menus. It only changes a website if that site ships its own dark styles, and AliExpress does not document any, so expect the page to stay white.
- The chrome://flags experiment. Chrome has an experimental flag called "Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents" (
chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark). It forces a dark rendering on every website at once, with no per-site exceptions and no sliders, and as an experiment it can change or disappear in any Chrome update. - Phone and OS settings. System-wide color inversion on iOS or Android exists as an accessibility feature, but it inverts photos too, which defeats the point when you are shopping.
A dedicated extension sits between these options: it darkens the page itself, but only where you want it, with controls for images and text. If you shop on other big stores too, see our guide to dark mode on Amazon.
AliExpress dark mode not working? Quick fixes
- Nothing changed: reload the AliExpress tab after installing, and check that the main switch is on.
- It works on other sites but not AliExpress: look at the site list. In "Not invert listed" mode a listed site is skipped; in "Invert listed only" mode it must be on the list. Alt+Shift+A adds or removes the current site.
- Photos or banners look odd: switch the engine to Filter+ or Dynamic. If a page is slow with heavy listings, try Static, which generates a simpler, faster theme.
- The checkout or a payment pop-up stays white: some payment windows are served from other domains or open in a separate window. Make sure that domain is not excluded in your site list.
- The Chrome Web Store page stays white: that is normal. Browser-protected pages cannot be changed by any extension.
How to turn off dark mode on AliExpress
Press Alt+Shift+D again, or open the extension and flip the switch off, and AliExpress goes back to its usual white look. To keep dark mode everywhere else but see AliExpress in its original colors, use the per-site button "Change mode on current site" or press Alt+Shift+A while the store is open. Your settings stay saved, so turning it back on later is one click.
Why use AliExpress dark mode?
Late-night deal hunting
Flash sales and new listings keep people scrolling long after dark. A dark theme cuts the glare of a white screen in a dim room.
Long comparison sessions
Comparing sellers, sizes and reviews can take an hour. Softer brightness and adjustable contrast make that easier on your eyes.
Calmer cart and order tracking
Order pages, tracking timelines and messages are text-heavy. Light text on a dark background keeps them readable without the bright flash.
One look across your tabs
If your other sites are already dark, a white AliExpress tab stands out. The extension keeps every shopping tab consistent.
Best Dark Mode settings for AliExpress
Engine: Filter+ or Dynamic
Both are good for image-heavy stores. Filter+ preserves color saturation and uses the GPU; Dynamic is the default and works well on most listings.
Brightness and contrast
Lower brightness slightly for night shopping, and raise contrast a little if gray seller info and small prices are hard to read.
Sepia for evenings
A small amount of Sepia warms the page. Keep it modest so product colors still look believable.
Schedule or sunset mode
Set active hours, or use "Activate after sunset at location", so AliExpress turns dark automatically in the evening.
Site list
Use "Invert listed only" if you want dark mode just on AliExpress and a few other shops, or "Not invert listed" to darken everything except chosen sites.
Follow your system
Turn on "Use system color scheme" so the extension switches together with your Windows or macOS dark mode.
Frequently asked questions
Does AliExpress have a dark mode?
As of 2026 the AliExpress website has no built-in dark mode or night mode switch. On desktop, the practical way to get an AliExpress dark theme is a browser extension such as Dark Mode, which darkens the store page by page.
Is there a dark mode in the AliExpress app?
We could not confirm a dark theme setting in the current AliExpress app for iPhone or Android. Check the app's settings after updates, but do not expect it to follow your phone's dark mode. The Dark Mode extension works on desktop browsers only.
Will dark mode make product photos look wrong?
It should not if you use the right engine. Dynamic (the default) and Filter+ keep photos close to their original colors, while the page around them turns dark. If a listing still looks off, compare the two engines on the same page.
Is the AliExpress dark mode extension free?
Yes. The free plan includes the dark theme, sliders, engines, site list, schedule and hotkeys. There is an optional Pro upgrade for $3 per month or $20 lifetime; see pricing.
Does the extension see my AliExpress account or orders?
The developer declares in the Chrome Web Store that the extension does not collect or use your data. It changes how pages look in your browser and does not need an AliExpress login.
Can I use AliExpress dark mode in Edge or Brave?
Yes. Dark Mode installs from the Chrome Web Store in Chromium browsers such as Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and Yandex Browser, and works on AliExpress the same way as in Chrome.
The bottom line
AliExpress still has no native dark mode, but the Dark Mode extension gives you one in under a minute: install, open the store, press Alt+Shift+D. Pick Filter+ or Dynamic so product photos stay true, add a schedule, and late-night shopping gets a lot easier on the eyes. More step-by-step guides are on the blog.
